I've burned the candle and now I want to reuse the jar (or tin). What's the best way to clean out the wax residue?

First, remove the wick clip. You can use the tip of a butter knife to loosen it. If there is a significant amount of wax leftover, try loosening it with your fingers or that butter knife first to pop it out.  To remove the rest of the residue, heat your oven on the lowest temperature (our lowest is 200 degrees). Place the jar or tin on a baking sheet and into the oven for about 10 minutes. Carefully remove it from the oven. Using oven mitts and a paper towel, wipe the interior clean.

 

What can I do with leftover wax? Can I compost it? What about the packaging? Can it be recycled?

If there is any wax or wick remaining when you are done burning your GoodLight Natural Candles, you can definitely compost it (in an industrial/municipal composting program). Please recycle the empty aluminum tea light cups, as well as our paperboard packaging. Be sure to remove the wick clip before tossing anything into the compost or recycle bins.

 

When will I receive my order?

Orders placed before 4:00 pm Mountain Time will generally be shipped the next business day via FedEx Ground. GoodLight orders ship from warehouses in Pennsylvania and Nevada (using two coastal locations helps minimize transit times and shipping charges). As a general rule of thumb, if you live west of the Rocky Mountains, your order will ship from Nevada (zip code 89431); if you live east of the Rocky Mountains, your order will ship from Pennsylvania (zip code 18706). Depending on your location, FedEx Ground generally delivers in 1 to 4 business days (this does not include the day it ships). This handy map shows FedEx Ground transit times. Remember, FedEx Ground transit times are not guaranteed; neither is our order processing time mentioned above. If you need your order by a specific date, contact us.

 

What is paraffin?

Paraffin is basically the "bottom of the barrel" petroleum sludge that remains in oil refineries once every other product (i.e. jet fuel, gasoline, motor oil) has been extracted. It's a combustible waste material that is the primary ingredient for more than 90% of the world's candles. Read more about the toxicity of paraffin candle fumes here.

 

What is palm wax? Is it related to palm oil?

Palm wax is a derivative of palm oil. Palm oil comes from the fruit of the oil palm tree. Read more about palm oil here.

 

I've heard that palm oil is related to rainforest destruction and wildlife habitat loss. Can you please elaborate, and explain how GoodLight is involved?

Where is GoodLight located?

Our office is in Telluride, Colorado.

 

Where are your candles manufactured?

All of the tapers, Shabbat, Chanukah, and birthday candles are manufactured in Malaysia. All of the tea lights, votives, pillars, and scented candles are manufactured in China. We have visited both of these ISO-certified facilities and can vouch that they are clean and modern, and that workers are treated well, paid a living wage, and are given ample vacation time. The essential and botanical oils we use for all of our scents are blended here in the U.S.

 

Do the scented candles contain any fake fragrances?

No. All of our scented candles are made with pure essential oils and other botanical oils. They are all extracted from plants by either cold pressing, steam or vacuum distillation. No chemical solvents are used and there are no non-plant-based ingredients or chemical perfumes in any of these blends. To elaborate, take our scent Fig Grapefruit for example – there is no such thing as essential oil of fig. Different components of pure essential oils are extracted and combined to create that fig scent.

 

Are your candles vegan?

Yes! GoodLight palm wax is vegan (and non-GMO!), and our wicks are pure cotton. The essential and botanical oils we use for our scents are also vegan, as are the non-toxic Bekro dyes we use for our colored birthday and Chanukah candles. 

 

My candles are missing. What do i do?

If FedEx tracking says your order delivered, but you don't have it, contact us. We will investigate and if necessary, file a claim with FedEx (claims may take up to 90 days to reach resolution). GoodLight is not responsible for missing or stolen packages that FedEx correctly delivers nor are we responsible for missing packages if the address given to us by you is incorrect. If you accidentally enter the wrong address, contact us and we will do our best to re-route the package.

 

Will my candles melt in transit?

In all of our eleven years of shipping candles across the country, this just recently happened for the first time to a customer living in rural Washington state during a heat wave. The temperature reached 116 degrees that day while the candles sat in a FedEx truck all day. We advise against ordering the candles if temperatures in your area reach above 110 degrees.
